About CutMyBill

CutMyBill (cutmybill.shop) was created with one simple goal: help renters and homeowners lower their electricity and gas bills without expensive renovations, confusing jargon, or gimmicks.

Energy costs have climbed steadily over the past few years, and most advice online is either written by companies trying to sell you something, or too vague to actually save you money. We wanted a different approach — practical, budget-first guidance that tells you honestly whether a product or habit change is actually worth it.

Our story

CutMyBill started after one too many months of watching utility bills creep up with no clear explanation and no simple fix in sight. What began as a personal spreadsheet of "which of these gadgets actually pays for itself" grew into a full site, because the same questions kept coming up: does a smart plug really save money, is a portable AC worth it for a small apartment, is a $15 draft stopper actually going to move the needle. We started publishing straight answers to those questions, backed by real numbers instead of guesswork.

What we cover

Our content is organized around five areas: budget-friendly products that genuinely reduce energy waste, renter-specific fixes that don't require landlord approval or permanent changes, side-by-side comparisons of common energy-saving options, step-by-step how-to guides, and honest reviews of the products and providers we recommend.

Our editorial standards

Every article on CutMyBill goes through the same basic process: we research the topic using manufacturer specifications, publicly available utility program data, and, where possible, hands-on testing; we write in plain language and avoid unnecessary jargon; and we clearly label estimates as estimates rather than guarantees. Articles are reviewed for accuracy before publishing, and we revisit and update older posts when prices, programs, or product availability change. If you spot something that's out of date or incorrect, please tell us — see our Contact page.

Our approach

We test products where we can, reference publicly available utility program data and manufacturer specifications, and clearly separate what we know from what we estimate. Where we can't personally test something, we say so. We are not funded by any utility company, and any affiliate relationships or sponsored content are always disclosed in the relevant article and in our Disclaimer.

Who runs this site

CutMyBill is an independent publication operated by Paper Empire Media. We are not affiliated with any specific utility company, government agency, or energy provider. The site is written and maintained by a small, hands-on team rather than a large newsroom, which is why every article carries a genuinely tested, budget-conscious point of view instead of generic advice.
